Darling Launches Bastrop Webpage
City of Bastrop Mayor Ishmael Harris informed county residents on October 22nd via a Facebook post that Darling Ingredients is in weekly correspondence with him and that Darling’s Bastrop facility has launched a new website laying out odor improvement plans for the facility.
Darling repeatedly maintains that they are committed to “being a good neighbor” and continuously point residents to utilize their phone hotline to report any concerns. Stop The Stink Bastrop has called the hotline numerous times to report odors and has never connected with any Darling representatives directly or received a call back. Darling has also not responded to any of our requests for a meeting and did not attend the September 2025 town hall held in Elgin to discuss their pollution. We welcome any correspondence from Darling Ingredients staff that addresses concerns from the community.
Stop The Stink Bastrop maintains that submitting an environmental complaint with TCEQ is the best course of action that residents have for reporting odor and/or pollution from the facility.
Click “Submit A Complaint” in our navigation menu at the top if you need to report the facility.
10/27/25 UPDATE: A representative from Darling’s Bastrop facility contacted a Stop The Stink Bastrop member after filing a complaint via Darling’s hotline. The representative stated that additional upgrades were being done to the facility over the weekend and should make a significant difference. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on the status of the odor and pollution.
